Using Attributes on Items

Overview

Attributes are custom fields on price book and inventory records—brand, size, warranty, skill tier, or any detail your business tracks beyond name and SKU.

How to access

  • Price Book/pricebookAdd or EditAttributes section.
  • Inventory/inventoryAdd or EditAttributes section.
Category defaults: Settings → Category Markup (see Category Attributes).

What you can do today

  • Add name/value attribute pairs on individual price book and inventory items.
  • Inherit category default attributes when creating new items in that category.
  • Search lists by name, SKU, supplier, and related fields where exposed.
  • Carry attribute context onto estimates when adding from the price book (where configured).
  • Embed attribute-aware price book search widgets on your website (see Website Widgets).

Prerequisites

  • Price book or inventory permissions for your role.
  • Optional: category defaults configured for repeating fields.

Step-by-step

Add attributes to a price book item

  1. Price BookAdd or Edit.
  2. Find the Attributes section.
  3. Add name and value for each field.
  4. Save.

Add attributes to an inventory item

  1. InventoryAdd or Edit.
  2. Use the Attributes section the same way.
  3. Save.

Use attributes on estimates

  1. Open an estimate and Add from Price Book.
  2. Lines inherit attribute data from the price book item where configured—useful for model, color, or size on the proposal.

Keep attributes clean during bulk changes

  1. Before a bulk import or Bulk Price Book Updates, align attribute naming with your category defaults.
  2. Remove duplicate or unused keys when reviewing high-traffic SKUs.

Current limitations

  • No dedicated “attributes only” bulk editor—use item edit or bulk edit for other fields; attributes are per-item today.
  • Customer PDF display of every attribute is not guaranteed; depends on template and line configuration.
  • Website attribute widgets require separate setup under Settings → Website → Widgets.

Roadmap

  • Attribute columns on price book and inventory lists.
  • Bulk attribute import/export with CSV.
  • Stronger estimate/PDF attribute rendering options.
