Bundle materials with services; required vs optional parts.

Price Book Components

Overview

Price book components link inventory parts and materials to a service or product line. When your team adds that price book item to an estimate, the linked parts travel with it—helpful for bundled work like “install faucet” that always uses specific supplies.

How to access

  1. In the left menu, click Price Book (/pricebook).
  2. Click Add for a new item, or open an existing item and click Edit.
  3. Open the Inventory Components tab in the create/edit dialog.

What you can do today

  • Link one or more inventory items to a price book line as Required or Optional components.
  • Set quantity per sale for each component.
  • Add components while creating a new item (no need to save first and return).
  • Edit, remove, or change quantities on existing items.
  • Roll component costs into parent pricing (see Automatic Cost & Pricing).

Prerequisites

  • Inventory items exist for the parts you want to bundle.
  • Your role includes price book create/update permissions.
  • For accurate rolled-up pricing, inventory cost should be kept current (often via Purchase Orders).

Step-by-step

Add components while creating an item

  1. Price Book → Add.
  2. Open the Inventory Components tab.
  3. Click Add Inventory Components (inventory picker).
  4. Search and select parts.
  5. For each component, set Quantity and Type (Required or Optional).
  6. Click Create. Components save with the item.

Edit components on an existing item

  1. Price Book → open the item → Edit.
  2. Go to Inventory Components.
  3. Add, remove, or change quantities and Required/Optional.
  4. Save.

OptionalThe part may be omitted from the bundle (internal flag—not customer checkbox approval).
Note: Optional components are not the same as Markate-style optional estimate lines where the customer checks boxes on the proposal PDF. Components control bundled parts; Good / Better / Best options are separate estimate columns.

Current limitations

  • Optional components are an internal bundle flag—they do not render as customer-selectable checkboxes on the estimate PDF.
  • Component changes do not automatically update existing open estimates; only new lines added from the price book pick up current component data.
  • Bulk component editing is not available; edit components one price book item at a time.
  • There is no live supplier catalog—components must reference inventory you maintain.

  • Clearer customer-facing optional-line presentation on proposals.
  • Bulk component management across related price book items.
  • Stronger warnings when component costs drift from recent PO receipts.
